Trainsmag.com just reported that Tests began today to determine whether rebuilt Guilford Rail System track in Main and New Hampshire can safely handle Amtrak trains operating at 79 mph, Maine newspaper the Foster's Daily Democrat reported.

Amtrak and backers of the long-sought Downeaster service, which is expected to begin running between Portland and Boston later this fall, say the track will support 79-mph operation. Guilford has contested that assertion, saying the 115-pound rail is only safe for 59-mph trains. The Surface Transportation Board resolved the dispute earlier this year, and ordered testing to ensure that the line meets certain track standards.

Officials were concerened that recent heavy rains may affect the outcome of the tests.

well guys what is your reaction to this.
