I need to photograph as large a cross-section of train types as I can find in the US. Where is the best place to go to do this? Do any of the large rail companies ever provide free images in return for publicity?

Fullerton, California, would provide a good mix. Commuter rail, long distance rail (i.e. Amtrak), BNSF intermodal and general freight.

Images vs. publicity? Suggest you call one of the Big Seven (UP, BNSF, CSX, NS, CN, etc.) and ask

Just curious, what is your photo project for?
