In case any of you haven't heard, the National Association of Railroad Passengers announced this morning the untimely death of their President, John R. Martin.

Jack, as he has been affectionately known in the rail community, was one of the nation's most prolific and diplomatic rail advocates. He had been NARP's President since 1979.

The rail travel community is grieving tonight, but many are already doing their part to honor Jack's legacy by writing letters to Amtrak urging that a Viewliner Sleeping Car be renamed in his honor. I strongly suggest that anyone who wishes to recognize Jack go to Amtrak's web site (www.amtrak.com), select "Contact Us", and fill out their online form, urging your support of a Viewliner sleeper being renamed.

Jack might be gone, but may his legacy live forever.

Jack Martin was a great advocate for the rail passenger system. Although I didn't know him personally, we were both members of the All Aboard Rail Forum. I enjoyed his posts & constant efforts to advance the cause of passenger rail in this country. Yours, Reggie Atwell
