I am going to toronto from new york city later this month. is it worth going out of my way to take the adirondack to montreal and then via overnight to toronto? i have heard the adirondack is supposed to be pretty good. and are via rail and amtrak located in the same building in montreal?
Otherwise i will just take the maple leaf.

If you have the time it is definately worth it. You ll get to Montreal around 8 and Viarails overnight train to Toronto leaves at 11:30. Both are in the same station. You might want to spend a day in Montreal. The Queen Elizabeth Hotel is right above the train station. You ll arrive in Toronto a lttle after 8 and then you can connect to the Maple Leaf back to New York. That train leaves at 9.

I will echo graynt's recommendation. In addition to the superior scenery on the Adirondak, taking the overnight train from Montreal to Toronto will provide a trip on European built equipment unique in North America.
