The California Zephyr backs into Denver station. I know how it gets there from the west, but where does it reverse / which route does it take from the east (ie the westbound Zephyr)?
It's for Microsoft Train Simulator.

I can't remember in detail, but since no one else has answered: it comes in on BNSF along Brighton Blvd, then along and across the South Platte River to a point approx. NW of the depot, where it does some back and forth dropping and picking up the silly freight cars. I think the depot was about a half mile away to the southeast when the switching and turnaround happened. I think the South Platte was always close by and we may have crossed it more than once. This is as of last summer.

Denver Union Station was designed as a stub terminal.
I've been on trains that backed down on the trainsheds at Denver since "The City of Saint Louis" in 1963 and 1967.
Also, in the days prior to Amtrak (and its M&E operation), the investor-owned railroads switched both passenger and mail/express cars in and out of their consists.

Grandma and Grandpa lived in Abilene, KS, on the Emporia-Superior branch of the Santa Fe. Good news was in the 70s I got to see freight Fs, Warbonnets and Bluebonnets working the grain drag extras.
The bad news was the Santa Fe long since had finished with passenger service at Abilene. UP, OTOH, had the CoStL, the Portland Rose, and the "plug". Let's see... NW 2d and Cedar streets 4 blocks north to Grandma and Grandpa's, or Grandpa drives to Newton.
I still have active memories of the dome lounge, the dome diner, standard level club cars, and National series Pullmans. Indeed, it set a standard.
