We'll have most of the day in Portland OR before boarding train 28 to Glacier Park. Any suggestions for sightseeing in the station area? Also, the Empire Builder schedule card notes that the "Metropolitan Lounge" is available to sleeper passengers. Is this worth a visit?

You could check out the Portland Streetcar system, as it loops around Downtown and NW Portland.

A few shops to check out. Metropolitan lounge is a quiet waiting area, kinda nice.

Have fun.

In the Portland Metropolitan Lounge, there is a large picture window overlooking the tracks, so it is a good place to watch the trains come and go. Also in the lounge, you will have complimentary coffee, snacks, and soft drinks while you are waiting.

Store you bags in the lounge and go explore. The Downtown Street Car line is fun as is the MAX Line west through the tunnel. Powell Books is on the downtown streetcar line if you to pick up some books.
