I Just on the Article on The Trainsmag.com That Amtrak and The State of Vermont have inked a new Contract that will continued service on the Vermonter and Ethan Allen Express trains for another. Agency of Transportation Secretary Brian Searles Said That The Ethan Allen and The Vermonter play important roles in a balanced system of transportation in their State, and this contract provides the means for them to improve service for of their citizens.

So what do you guys think?

Thats great! I think that Amtrak is VERY important for Vermont. You have many smaller cities without airports and only ONE highway going through the state. There's no highway from Rutland, and no major airport that I'm aware of. My girlfriend and I took the Ethan Allen to Rutland as a fun little weekend excursion. If the Ethan Allen didn't run that route, we wouldn't have gone to Rutland. We did spend money in that town while we were there. Many people also use it to get to the ski slopes. Also, Rutlanders use it to get to New York City, because it's about the same amount of time on Greyhound! Good going Vermont- It costs them a mere 1.5 million to subsidize this service which benefits many people. It improves their transportation options and brings money into the state. That's my two cents!

Probably the single most importaint contributor to Vermont's economy is tourism. It is essential that Vermont has adequate transportaion within the state. Rail is the most scenic way to travel in the beautiful state and also the most relaxing. The 1.5 million Vermont spends on funding is quite a bargain considering how much that brings in in tourist dollars.
