You're getting tougher, Dave!! Let me think about these for a day or so... The only answer that comes to mind immediately is #8 - the Heartland Flyer.

#4 - all I can think of immediately is Threemile Island, PA (Middletown station) and Trojan Power Plant in WA (Kelso-Longview station)

But give me a day or so........

The answer to number 12 varies.
It can go from 2,640 to 3,335 ties.

I've got a few answers here, and a question of my own.

1) Alpine, TX
2) Port Kent, NY; New London, CT; Bridgeport, CT -- but also Oakland, CA (ferry to San Francisco from Jack London Square)

8) The Arbuckle Mountains are in OK, train is the Heartland Flyer

9) Steam locomotives were built in:

Schenectady
Philadelphia (Eddystone after 1928)
Lima, OH (on former route of Broadway)
Montreal

12) Mainline track has 3,200 ties per mile

Question: did any Amtrak train ever run on track owned by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad?

(answer is yes, but where?)

I ain't playing no more of Dave's Amtrivia until I get my prizes from the last ones. I was correct on some of those questions, which certainly entitles me to a major prize. Like the weekend in Maui with Britney Spears. Yeh, that's the one I want. Dave, did you lose my address? I'd be glad to give it to you again so you can mail me my tickets and dinero for living expenses. I'm packed and ready to go.

#10 Not Railroad Avenue, but

the Fullerton California station is on Santa Fe avenue, as I believe several other former Santa Fe stations are.

The no longer served Pommona station is on Santa Fe street.

I'd Hate to rain on your parade TwinStarRocket, but Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant is in Pennsylvania.

There is a Prairie Island Power Plant in Minnesota.

#6: The quote was said in the New York Times about Demolishing Penn Station

RRRich got #8 right first. The Arbuckle Mountains are a scenic highlight of The Heartland Flyer. But mountains in Oklahoma? Nobody sang nothing about no mountains in "Oklahoma!"

UncleBuck44 got #12 first - approx. 3,000 ties to the mile. He also answered #3 first - the Grand National Tractor Pull is in Tomah, WI, an Empire Builder Stop.

JonA got #6 right first. The quote refers to the demolition of Penn Station in NYC.

rresor had the first qualifying answer for Question #2. He named three Amtrak stations within walking distance of a ferry boat. He also named four past or present Amtrak destinations where steam locomotives were built: Schnectady, Philly, Lima, Montreal...

EspeeFoamer got #1 right first. The highest point on the Sunset Route is Paisano Pass, Paisanos.

We've got five nuclear plants named that are passed by Amtrak trains, but they weren't named by just one person. And to think I wondered if this question might have been too easy.

Too bad I lost that gym bag with Britney's picture. Her cell # was in the bag too. Now I can't call her to arrange your Maui date, zephyr.

On that note, along with my apologies for any disappointment you may be experiencing, here's a complimentary link to a world-class passenger train corporation that can provide you with the rail journey of a lifetime - provided you can provide the money! Congratulations!

Santa Fe 5704,

My guess would be at Rio Puerco on the Gallup Subdivision.

rresor,

I found this statement regarding Amtrak operating on E-L trackage:

"In 1974, Amtrak's Cardinal began using this line into Chicago (the former C&O/C&WI), which included some trackage in Hammond shared with Erie Lackawanna. But when Conrail abandoned the Erie Lackawanna line in 1976, C&O began routing its freight trains over the Baltimore and Ohio line east to Wellsboro, IN, and via a C&O branch line south, joining the C&O main line at La Crosse, IN. Amtrak attempted to retain the routing through Hammond, but eventually switched to the routing via Wellsboro. This lasted until 1986, when the Cardinal routing was changed again to allow CSX, the new owners of the line, to downgrade the line."

Oops, sorry to get my islands mixed up, UncleBuck. I did mean Prairie Island -and here I live in Minnesota!

It least I didn't get it mixed up with Temptation Island. Thats where I imagine Julie lives. But whenever I ask her about herself she just says 'sorry, I don't understand.'
