I've been a a drinker of Pepsi Products my entire life, so Coke is pretty much out of the question if you ask me. Pepsi is sweeter, Coke is drier, overall Pepsi just tastes better, but this is probably one of the biggest matters of opinion out there!

I'm more of a Pepsi man. Another observation (off-topic, I know, but related to beverages) : the Empire Builder passes within sight of Miller Brewing corporate HQ, while there are no MIller Brewing products on board.

As I said in the other (duplicate) post, both should be available. Personally I don't mind too much either way. But there is no legal impediment to selling both on board. The only non-legal (note: not *illegal*) impediment would be if Amtrak had a sole supplier deal with Pepsi.

Why are there duplicate topics? Not to stray too far, I vote for Pepsi.

I have seen both Coke and Pepsi products on Amtrak trains. Sometimes they'll have one in the sleeping cars and another in the diner and lounge. Perhaps this is due to picking up stocks en-route. The local suppliers may have a better price on one over the other.
My personal preference, root beer.
On Coke vs Pepsi, definitely Coke (prefer caffeine free). I also prefer Sprite over 7-UP. But in the end, it really doesn't matter. Its all just bubbly flavored sugar water.

Want a Coca Cola on an Amtrak train. Take the Downeaster as they serve Coke or the Maple Leaf after it enters Canada and is run as a VIA Train.

The brown of Pepsi is like fine Corinthian leather. Its sugar is sweet like the mangos of Antigua. Its bubbles are like those of a rare bottle Veuve-Cliquot.

Coke vs. Pepsi? It depends on my mood. I like both but have different preferrences at different times. A choice would be nice but I appreciate the economic advantages of an exclusive agreement. There's also RC Cola which is even sweeter.

Okay, what is the best tasting brand of root beer? There's been one vote for A&W (diet) so far. I have always liked Hires (the original?) best but it now ranks well below other brands like A&W, Barqs, Mug, and a couple of others. Nothing beats a good root beer in a frosty cold mug.
Another question... Does anyone think Mr. Pibb is better than Dr. Pepper? I'm a Pepper.

I'm almost positive that Pepsi has a national contract with Amtrak, thus it being the proprietary beverage served onboard. As far as what was said about Root Beer, well I've tried them all at one point or another and Mug is the best (It's also a Pepsi Product as well). Another popular beverage found on Amtrak is Sierra Mist (Tastes Better than 7UP if you ask me). I've never done this but for our other 21+ year old posters (I'm 26 years old but I rarely drink), anyone ever try a Pepsi w/Vodka?

This thread has gone on too long!!!! Who cares? Pepsi or coke? I'll take whatever they have, that is, unless it's "Miller time." (Hah!)

In general, I like coke products better so that makes a decision difficult in the lounge car. Amtrak has a national contract with Pepsi. Don't you read the sids of your Amcups? Pepsi was fine back when they served either lemon-lime slice (rare out east) or 7-up but now it's Sierra Mist which is not as good. 7-up over sprite. Root beer above all. This is why I don't like Pepsi that much because Mug root beer is flavorless sugar water, probably the worst root beer out there.
With regards to smuggling soda on board, my scout group brought two large suitcases filled with nothing but Pepsi and Mountain Dew on our two and a half day trip to El Paso. I'll never drink Mountain Dew or Pepsi warm again. As long as you stay within the original topic, it's on topic. Football is irrelevant.
