I was going to post a message about international railways, but then i realized that no one has checked that part of the baord for just about two months. And i know that when people dont put direct amtrak posts into this part of the forum, they still get results. My resolution: Consilidate all the railforum boards into one big one, then we could have more open discussion not only on AMTRAK but also on other train realted subjects!

well, the only rooms wiht people are AMTRAK, and Model railroading. THe others I think should be shut down. We also I think need a off-topic forum.

So what if a particular forum doesn't get all that many visits or posts? If something belongs there, then that's where it should go.

The forums are there for a purpose - to segregate topics. I'm not interested in Model Railroading for example, so I ignore that forum. Just because nobody has posted for a while, doesn't mean to say a new topic won't be read or responded to.
Ask a question in the right place and you'll get the right answer. Ask a question in the wrong place and you'll get people complaining.

I think Polarbear has a point. For example, there are the three forums: AMTRAK, travel, and Commuter Rail; is it possible to rail travel without being on AMTRAK or a commuter line? It seems to me that at least those three could stand some rethinking.

I would argue that some of the items that get posted on the Amtrak board should actually be under Travel; that would be things like trip reports and questions about traveling by train, even if the trip reports and questions only specifically involve Amtrak travel.
That's one thing a hands-on moderator would do for this board...move topics to a more appropriate location. (No, I'm not campaigning for the job.)

I like the separate forums. But I can't tell where the dividing line is for "Western" "Central" and "Eastern".
