From Trains.com:
Amtrak President David L Gunn issued this statement yesterday concerning the company's fiscal year 2005 federal grant proposal:

"The U.S. Department of Transportation Today included in it's propsed budget for FY05 a $900 million grant to support Capital infrasture investment operations and othewr needs for Amtrak as the nation's intercity passenger rail system. This is the same level as propsed last year. as it turned out, for the current fiscal year(FY04) we received an appropriations level from Congress higher than requested by the Administration.

"Next week, Amtrak will detail very specific infrasture improvements it needs to make in FY05 to keep us on the road to a state of good repair and so that our passengers can continue to depend on safe and reliable service, as with last year, our grant request will be more than $900 million and will be closer to the figure outlined last year in our strategic five-year plan. we look forward to working with Congress in the months ahead to secure federal support that is required for a state of good repair and the kind of reliability our passengers deserve."

well gang your thoughts?

A better means of presenting this material to this Forum would be as follows: http://www.amtrak.com/press/atk20040202011.html
A press release at the Amtrak web site is clearly not copyrighted. That the access is made by URL link enables the originator to retain control over their material.

Trains.com Newswire represents copyrighted material. Copying material from that site to this Forum by "cut and paste" represents a violation of their rights. Even though that site is "free", registration is required. This will result is your exposure to both their banner and pop-up advertisments, and may result in you being "spammed". Both are simply the "price" you pay to access their material.

By copying to this Forum, you obviate their rights to the material, and instead expose readers to banner advertising sponsored by this site as distinct from theirs.

Food for thought.
