You all were so nice to me two years ago when I was new to train travel, I'm back again.
I've booked my trip for October 3-28 from jax to sac and back. I've lost the website that had the train/car descriptions on it. I want to look up where my rooms are.
Can someone help with this.

Quite likely you are using trains 1-2 (Sunset Ltd) and 11-14 (Starlight) for your trip. Both trains are assigned Superliner cars.

If you are using one person Standard rooms, Rooms #1-10, incl. are located on the Upper Level; lower the number the better the ride. Rooms 11-14 are on the Lower Lever,; no discernible difference in any of their ride quality. Room 15 on the Lower Lever is the Family Room that sleeps four persons. Room H is reserved for passenger with special needs.

If booked Deluxe, Rooms A-E are on the Upper Level, with E being the best riding. Aside from being the worst riding Room A has notably less space than do the others. With the Deluxe, the mystery is which way will the room be riding. No one can answer that until your train consist is made up. All I can report on that point is that the sofa's in Rooms A,C.E face one direction, B & D in the opposite.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Gilbert and Dilly: just exactly the information I was looking for. I am indeed traveling Train #1 and #14 to Sacramento.

Then returning I take the northern route on Trains #6, #30, and #91 back to Jax.

I look forward to another "interesting" and rewarding trip.

Dilly posted sleeping car configurations from Friends of Amtrak. That site has been around for several years, and it is still showing the incorrect deluxe bedroom designations for the Viewliners. They have reversed the positions of Deluxe A and B. Will they ever correct this?

I've never noticed.

But since each Viewliner has only two Deluxe rooms, one right next to the other (and neither is situated at the end of the car), does it really matter?
