Even though I have now booked all Amtrak transportation, namely four overnight trips, since May-03 through the website, I only registered a profile as of a week ago.
Today, I note I'm in receipt of some "Amspam", or more specifically material relating to their 5% web discount. I'm certain I'm not the only one around here in receipt of such.
Honestly, when compared with "Honorable Patrice Lumumba from Darkest Africa who needs your help to facilitate the transfer of $100M out of his corrupt war torn country...." or "Perscribed Performance Meds without a perscription", Amspam is a welcome diversion. I actually might read it!!!!
Anyone here care to share their thoughts on this subject???

For what ever reason I have never (knock on wood) had a spam problem.
About 1ce a month I get an email from amtrak that I find informative RE specials and the like. If they sent me anymore than this I would probably get annoyed.

I registered with a "profile" on the Amtrak website a couple of years ago. I get an occasional promotional e-mail, but that is at my own request. There should be a section where you set up your profile to opt in or out of e-mail promotions.

My memory may fail me but I believe Amtrak gave me the option to opt out. Most websites do (legit ones that is) but sometimes you have to look for the "button" that allows you to do this.
Amtrak is one of the few that I allowed email access to me and thus far they have not abused that.

E-blasts, as they're called, are a normal, if not always welcome, marketing tool. Not only Amtrak, but every airline and hotel with which I've done business on-line has sent me such promotions.
As long as the e-mails are infrequent and limited to the mildly informative, and my address is not bartered to promoters who quite incorrectly assume that I'm in need of a certain anatomical enhancement, I'm fine with it. Amtrak clearly seems to be respectful of that.

I guess I have never gotten any "Amspam" and I don't believe I ever even registered a "profile" with AMTRAK. I'd love to book my every-other-year train trips on line, but usually my trips are so complex that I can't break them into "4 segments" (with the trains I specifically want to ride), which is the maximum AMTRAK will allow to book on line. So no profile on file, no "Amspam."
