Does anybody have an update on when the Downeaster service is due to start? http://www.thedowneaster.com still says "late fall 2001". I'll be in Boston in mid-November and would very much like to ride it!

Thanks

Geoff Mayo.

I just read this yesterday (on the All_Aboard group - I think). The inaugural run is scheduled for December 14th, with regular service beginning December 15th.

This is from a Boston newspaper: http://www.railnews.net/cgi-bin/news/golink.exe?http://www.boston.com/dailynews/290/region/King_to_announce_startup_date_:.shtml

I thought that the 79MPH speed limit was agreed upon by Guilford, but I guess that we'll have to wait longer for that!

I'm still half expected Guilford to come up with something else to again delay the service. Now, if we can just get the Kentucky Cardinal extended to Nashville...

Unfortunately, I think you're right. I want Amtrak to start service up ASAP since it's to their benefit, but I WISH I could make it there for the start-up. Guilford might just help me out and delay.. we'll see. "You guys can't start service today.. there's a little snow on the tracks." I was in so much anguish from last post I couldnt even spell my name right..

I've also heard from a source in Portland that regular service is scheduled for Dec. 15th. What a shame that it couldn't have started earlier for the foliage season when people are really traveling around that reagion. Notice on the website that it reservations can't be made until nov. and there are still no definate schedules!!
