I will be out west (Wyoming) for the summer and will take the train back east at the end of September. I have taken both the Empire Builder and CZ to Chicago in the summer and then other trains back to Florida. Looking for the best fall scenery and can leave from Seattle or Emeryville.
Any preferences?
Thanks
Ray

i would choose emeryville because you will have the sierras and the rockies to go through. very nice. from denver east you will have nothing but cornfields.
------------------ The Copper Country Limited [Milwaukee Road] and the Peninsula 400 [CNW} still my favorites

You are probably right that the CZ through the mountains is the best choice. Thanks for the input.

Consider, however, that the fall color along the Mississippi & thru Wisconsin on the EB should be beautiful that time of year also.

I figured the aspens will have some change on the CZ route but didn't know when the leaves usually change on the Empire Builder route. I will travel during the last week of Septemebr. Living in south Florida so long I thought some color would be nice.

Fall colors on the Mississippi along the EB route are typically near peak in late September. Lots of pine along the CZ route, but areas of cottonwood and Aspen should provide some color.

We've been on the CZ in the first week of October. Aspens are turning then, and the trees along the Colorado River also are showing some color.

Thanks to all for the info. Now I don't know which route I will take. Good news is I have enough rewards points for a free deluxe bedroom on either route so I can't miss.
