Is it any big deal to check a sleeping bag with the rest of my luggage? It is in a light cloth bag/container and I would like to just check it without putting it in a more solid container. Do you see any problesm?

I don't see why it should be, if it is fully inside a closeable bag. In the past I've taken it onboard with me as it stuffs up well and makes a comfy bed at night if you're in coach seats!

My dad is a conductor for between SAC-KFS. I have helped him alot and we always get them. But mind that conductors are in a hurry so it will get thrown over 2 the pile. But you shouldnt have any worries in checking it.

I wouldn't check it, that baby would be carry on. Too many possible uses if you are in coach. It is the same reason I feel all travelers should have a hooide (hooded sweatshirt) when in transit. I use my hoodie as a pillow, to stay warm, to block out noise and light, all sorts of good stuff.
