The new Texas Eagle Schedule effective 10/28/01 features something new for this update. The connections to the Hiawatha Service trains from CHI to GLN, SVT, and MKE are included. GLN is Glenview, SVT is Sturtevant, MKE is Milwaukee.
These schedules may be found at http://www.trainweb.org/nationaltimetable/sanantonio/milwaukee.html This is the third schedule to include connecting services at one end of the route or the other. The first to feature the connecting service schedules was the Empire Builder's Portland Section (PDX-EUG), the second was the CZ (right now, just the west-end connections to and from OKJ-HAY-FMT-GAC-SJC and from BKY-RIC-SUI to the trains at EMY, MTZ, and DAV respectively are shown. As soon as another Capitol is added from the Auburn Area, an Auburn connection (reverse-direction travel is required for this, so it will be shown in a separate timetable below the OBS section.) and the CHI-GLN-SVT-MKE train connection (which is the same for many of the eastbound western trains except the Builder, which already stops in Milwaukee. AND Glenview.
Train #334, however is the southbound connection, no checked baggage is available on that train, and Amtrak needs to open checked baggage on it due to the earlier departure of the Zephyr. 336 does connect to the Chief, though for points south of Galesburg to Fullerton, CA and Los Angeles, CA.
I will get more of the schedules on trainweb over the next two weeks. Watch for announcements.

Any idea why the schedules were lengthened so soon after the new timetable booklets were published? The train obviously needs the time (or does it grow to fill the space available?!).
It annoyed me when I turned up at San Antonio at 6 in the morning to find that I could have had 30mins more in bed!

DUE TO CONTINUING SLOW ORDERS ON THE UNION PACIFIC, THE SCHEDULE OF TRAINS 21/421 AND 22/422, THE TEXAS EAGLE, IS BEING CONSIDERABLY LENGTHENED EFFECTIVE WITH TRAINS 21(28), 421(28), 22(28) AND 422(26, SAS-CHI). THE CHANGES ARE FOR THE MOST PART SOUTH OF ST. LOUIS, AND ARE AN ATTEMPT TO SHOW TIMES THAT MORE ACCURATELY REFLECT ACTUAL OPERATING CONDITIONS.
TRAIN 21: DP CHI AND STL SAME TIMES; DP LRK 500A, 47" LATER; DP LVW 1030A, 1'55" LATER; DP DAL 205P, 2'10" LATER; AR SAS 1145P, 2'20" LATER. 421 UNCHANGED SAS-LAX.
TRAIN 22: DP SAS 730A, 30" LATER; DP DAL 410P, 32" LATER; DP LVW 705P, 50" LATER; DP LRK 1155P, 56" LATER; DP STL 840A, 1'20" LATER; AR CHI 220P, 1"40 LATER.
**NO CONNECTION TO TRAIN 7.** 422 UNCHANGED LAX-SAS.

Ah, must have missed that one. Thanks. I hadn't noticed any significant slow running, apart from lots of stops at red signals. I heard one or two over the scanner for short distances. There may have been some during the night though (between Texarkana and St Louis). The first section I caught between San Ant and Dallas was 2+hrs late, but this was due to congestion. The next section arrived at Ft Worth half an hour early.
