I am in D.C. now, having arrived here on the Capitol Ltd., and planning to depart on Sunday for LSE and home. I am ticketed in a deluxe room to Chicago and in coach on the Empire Builder. I have five hours from hotel checkout in DC until train departure. Am I correct that the Acels lounge in D.C. is also available for ordinary first first class passengers? Will my children be welcome there? We plan to spend some of that time sight-seeing, but I also get nervous about any journey and like to get to the station early. Another question: In Chicago we theoretically have a 4 hour layover. Can we use the lounge there, even though we are transferring to coach class? We had an uncomfortable stay in the south waiting room on the way down-- no place to sit, very hot, and a guy begging for money for a ticket making the rounds.

Club Acela in Wash is open not only to Acela passengers of any class, but also to Sleeping Car passengers. "Been there done that" as recently as Feb connecting from the Capitol to the Silver Star.

Two weekends ago, friends of mine traveling New York to Minneapolis arrived on #49 (Lake Shore) in Sleeper and connected to #7 (Builder) Coach. They were afforded use of the Met Lounge for their entire layover.

I think you can safely be assured, Ms. Wood, that your party will be afforded the same courtesy.

As per Mr. Norman, but make sure you show your stubs for the 1st class Lake Shore in Chicago rather than (or as well as) your coach tickets for the Builder.
