Got family coming from S. California with kids ages 9,11,13. Yes, they are in 2 sleeper cars. I want to give a "goody bag", as a gift for their departure. Suggestions? Snacks, or they won't use them as food is included. Drinks (or all included)? Suggestions for a good trip????
Thanks in advance for your thoughts....

Since it looks like you're goin' on the Sunset Limited, my advice is to be prepared for anything. Emergency rations aren't a bad idea. You might even want to think about some refundable Southwest Airlines tickets as a backup if your time frame is limited.
Since you have sleepers, and I presume you aren't making a connection, you don't have a lot to worry about except time.
Don't forget the Mickey Mouse® watch to keep track of the train. Friday's train left L.A. over 6 hours late, recently the SL arrived at L.A. almost on time, but no less then 2 days after scheduled arrival.(the passengers were bussed from el Paso) I like to carry a GPS to follow the train's progress. (or lack thereof)
Sorry if I sound negative, but from the perspective of someone who likes trains, and travels by train whenever practical, you gotta know what to expect.

Thankfully, I am guessing, I am the "stopover" Aunt stop in Austin, TX. I just think the mom is unprepared, so I want to do something to best help them have a safe/ happy/ fun return trip home (at least). Thanks for the replies, and any future comments.....
