For some, riding the rails remains as romantic as ever, even though the Sunset Limited - the train that serves Tucson - hasn't arrived on time in more than a year.

That was a great read! Pretty much sums up my recent experience on #1. I am now contemplating doing it again in June, this time TX Eagle from St. Louis on in to Los Angeles. I'm only a little worried about the connection in San Antonio. Does anyone know what's happening with that these days? When I went through just before Thanksgiving, those passengers definitely got the short end of the stick - they didn't even get to wait in their train as they were bustituted because of bridge outages. The alternative for me is Missouri Mule STL to KCY and #3 on in to Los Angeles. Would you believe some days the first class is already SOLD OUT!?
