With the Start up of the new SLO Train. Got me to start thinking. Sense this is the First Short Distance Train North of Los Angeles.

Instead of having the Run Thru Surfliners. Why not just have Goleta-LAX Only Trains That can run in between the Surfliner trains. But Originate and Terminate in Los Angeles. With the recent discussions about Ventura/Santa Barbara and the 101. Along with adding maybe more trains got me to think more about why not. Just have Goleta to Los Angeles only Trains to go long with the Surfliners.

Anyone else wish to comment on this topic too?

I thought this was the second SLO train, not the first. It is my understanding that this second train is considered the first step towards revived LA-San Francisco "Coast Daylight" service.

Well. this is actually the third train from Los Angeles. But. I was saying. Should they have more Trains that only ran bewteen LA and Santa Barbara. Just like the Surfliner Route. Instead of having the run thru Trains like 763, 769, 768, 774, 775 etc. Just have 500 Series Trains that only went to Los Angeles. And not go south to San Diego. Give the LA to Santa Barbara Corridor its own name and Trains just for the Corridor. The New SLO Train is the First Train. That is not a thru Train to or from San Diego.

Of Course we will or may see the Daylight Train Return. But. I am saying. Should the LA SBA Corridor. Be its own Route. With Trains that would run in bewteen the other Surfliner, Starlight, Daylight Trains. But just be dedicated as LA-Santa Barbara/SLO Only Trains.

Do you understand yet Mr Toy?
I hope I cleared this up.

The 700 train service from Goleta takes a lot of students home all the way down the Corridor. Our new train 798 and 799 are LAX to SLO only reguiring a change of trains in LAX to go south in the evening.

Most people do not like to change trains, and as a general rule changing trains is a detriment to service. I live near SLO and have friends that often visit from south of LA via Amtrak. They will get up before 7am to go home on the thru train rather than change trains in LA on the new service. Keep in mind the new train stops in LA only for equipment reasons (to keep the low-level set in 'captive' service for daily use). If they had adequate 'surfliner' equipment, it would (and should) have been a thru train.

You think non thru Trains would be popular as thru trains Pismobum?

I would just like to see this Part of the LosSAN corridor get a lot of focus. To get Ridership to grow more. I would think that using non thru Trains would help. Specially if Ventura and Santa Barbara is looking at having Commuter Trains.

Anymore thoughts?

Repeating: non-thru trains are a detriment to ridership (read MISSED CONNECTIONS!). A lot of the ridership heading south is THRU L.A. Why irritate the ridership? As far as commuter needs, there is a lot of commute from Oxnard/Ventura to SBA. Probably would work if a morning Amtrak run started from Montalvo/Oxnard and went to SBA(Goleta?) as a commuter, then trainset came south as a Surfliner. Would take some schedule tweaking to get a SBA-Oxnard evening reverse service. However, giving UP's attitude about interference on their "busy" line (about 3 trains a day) and NIMBY/IGMFY's (like Carpenteria's denying adding a siding due to "bothering the seals"), don't look for service in our lifetimes.

There is also the under planning south end connection to the LAUS tracks so that the reversal now necessary can end and true pull in, stop, and pull out going on in the same directions service will be possible. Once that is in place, not only will through trains be easier they will actually be the preferred method of operation.

Carpenteria . . . duhh
This is just pure obstructionism. We are talking widening the roadbed something like 15 feet. That is barely over one highway lane's width.

Two words that always strike fear into the hearts of NIMBY's and NOPE's: PUBLIC DOMAIN!

I guess the CAVE people are content with driving around their gas-guzzlers while sipping on their Starbucks coffee and going home to their nice little cozies in suburbia-where they don't have to listen to the sounds of the city and don't have to breathe the foul air.
