I just clicked on the topic about taking the kids to Arizona on the train, the very active one with 55 replies. All of a sudden the file download box appears. I thought well, big topic. But then it kept going. I cancelled the download. But what gives?? This has never happened before. Might I have dowloaded something malicious?

No download box for me. Never accept a download that you haven't asked for. Forum software like this will never ask you to download something, even if it's a big topic (the one mentioned is split into two pages anyway). Maybe you inadvertently clicked on a link?

Or perhaps you have a virus or spyware bug that caused your computer to automatically download something at the moment you were reading the thread. Something similar happened to me a few months ago. Suggest you do a full virus and spyware scan. This works well for getting rid of spyware, and its free for non-commmercial users: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
