I have a possible window to ride the Acela Express BOS/WAS. I'm probably going to go for First Class. Are the seats assigned at time of booking or at check in? I'd really prefer a single seat if possible. What meal service will I receive if I leave BOS at 11AM with a 5:55PM arrival at WAS?
Thanks in advance.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. We are taking the Acela Express from WAS to NYP in a few weeks and are also traveling first class, but our tickets do not show seat numbers. Do they assign when you arrive or is it general admission?

I'm booked in First Class on Acela Express train #2253 on 02/12/05 leaving BOS at 11:10AM and arriving WAS at 5:55PM. Any ideas on what the meal service will be? Lunch, I would guess. I'm still curious about seat assignment. Is there a preferred side of the car? Where are the fastest segments?
I'm very much looking forward to this little adventure. I was able to find great hotels in both cities for under $100 a night which I think is pretty good in a major city.

Having ridden #2253 from Boston to Washington in First Class last October, I can tell you that lunch (with several menu choices) is served out of Boston, and a light mid-afternoon snack out of Penn Station. My luncheon choice was an excellent chicken sandwich, with a salad and chocolate cake. The snack was an outstanding cobb salad out of again several menu choices) with a piece of key lime pie to follow. There is unlimited complimentary bar service at all times. The First Class configuation is two-and-one, and I recommend the single (usually left facing forward) side. Plenty of leg room and very comfortable seats. Seats are not specifically reserved, so early boarding is usually necessary. I never heard the boarding annoucement in South Station but still lucked out with a single seat. Southbound, First Class is usually the first car so be prepared for a hike! Have a fun trip! Posts: 87 | From: Snowmass, CO USA | Registered: Jun 2003

That's remarkable.
I'm planning a little 'cash the guest reward points in' trip June 29-July 5 and wish that I could find lodging this reasonable within walking distance of Union Station in Kansas City.
Any suggestions from other readers are welcome......but that's grist for a new topic.

Both of my stays will be weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) when many business hotels in big cities have lower rates. In Boston I got a "webrate" at the Wyndham. The hotel in D.C. I found on Orbitz.
Sometimes it take a bit of hunting, but it is doable.
