Does anyone have any suggestions of a hotel in El Paso, TX? Preferably near the Amtrak station.
I'm about three weeks away from having enough guest rewards points for a summer Sunset/Eagle trip. I'd like to fly into El Paso the day before, spend the night, and depart eastward to St. Louis or perhaps Chicago the following morning.
Thanks for any suggestions anyone out there might have.

I don't recall any close, but there is a Holiday Inn that will provide free transport to/from the station. It is at Sunland park drive & I-10 west. I've stayed there a couple of times and had no trouble with the Amtrak shuttling. I don't know if it's true, but I've been told that the are of the station in El Paso isn't someplace you'd want to linger.

I have stayed at the Travelodge with a south facing room that overlooks the West End of the SP Yard before it enters the trench through town to the Amtrak station.

When I arrived in El Paso after my Copper Canyon rail trip in Mexico last year, I already knew where I was going to stay because I had clipped discount coupons from the following sites prior to leaving Toronto. I had called the hotel before leaving home and indicated that I had a coupon which I had no trouble redeeming at the front desk on arrival. I have noticed that the participating hotels vary seasonally. Roomsaver.com (Click on the map of Texas) TravelTex.com (Click on 'Trip Savers Coupons')

Did a little research based on your suggestion. I think that this hotel is now a Holiday Inn Express. Thanks for mentioning it and giving me something more concrete than an Expedia search to go on!
