When did California Zephyr service end? I just saw a TV piece on the history of the California Zephyr on the "Made in America" program--a great documentary piece!

Are you talking about the same piece that said the CZ was using the train of tomorrow cars that UP bought from GM? That thing was a joke.

The California Zephyr as a through Chicago-Oakland train ended during 1969. A successor tri weekly California Service operating Chicago-Ogden was then inaugurated and which lasted until A-Day.
The service offered through coaches and sleepers, complete with a Zephyr dome-obs. While a guaranteed connection with SP 101, City of San Francisco was offered at Ogden, no cars were interchanged.
There was also another "plus"; it restored Salt Lake-Ogden passenger service over the Rio Grande; such had previously expired during the 1920's.
