since no one cares about my question, I have decided to answer it myself. This is the las vegas fun train, which should be similar, if not the same, as the reno fun train. I went to trainorders.com and found that the consist will be 10 horizon coaches, dance car, full-length dome car, piano-lounge car, and smoking car--a total of 14 cars--quite long. There will be over 650 passengers, the weekend train includes a dinner at your seat. Posts: 38 | Registered: Aug 2000

Did the trainorders.com post say the Vegas & Reno train would be using the same cars? The Vegas cars are coming out of LA. If the LA cars are used for Reno the cars would have 2/b deadheaded up to OKJ.

UP backhauls to Barstow, runs up to Mojave on joint trackage with BNSF and then up the Central Valley route into Oakland...
Feels like it fails common sense test.

Since it's an Amtrak train & crew doubt very much if UP would have anything to do w/train. It will be returning to LA not terminating in Vegas.

interesting question, I would have to assume it is the same as the reno fun train. that's what the lady at keyholidays.com told me; I can't imagine them using two trainsets, plus she said "they run it to reno all the time."

I believe that when the lady told you THEY RUN IT INTO RENO ALL THE TIME, she was probably referring to the California Zypher which runs from Oakland, Ca. to Chicago, Ill. on a daily basis. That train happens to go through Reno every day.
