We are the group of eight traveling to Vancouver BC in June.Someone recently told us that amtrak will be reducing some of it's routes, or some of the scheduled stops on certain routes....even as early as this summer. Does anyone know if this is a possibility, and if so...what stops would be affected? Is our trip in jeopardy???? Thanks, Candy

So far it looks like Amtrak is going to keep running service on all of the current routes, with all of the current stops. At least until October. If you were planning to check your bags, you better check with the 1-800 number if checked baggage is still available at your stops. Better yet, I would carry them on. Attitudes, right or wrong will not be very good. Amtrak gutted the Chicago baggageroom personnel.

Disgusted,
When you say check luggage...you mean they are placed in a regular baggage storage car? We were planning on carrying them on and storing in an area near our sleeper. That should work ok, shouldn't it? I think our stop doesn't offer checked luggage anyway. ( Akron)
Thanks Candy

Checked baggage goes in a baggage car. You do not have access to it during your trip. Storing it near your sleeper is fine.

If you'd like, you can check some baggage (which is put in the baggage car), and keep the things you will need on board the train with you in your sleeping car.

I highly suggest carrying your baggage onto your sleeping car. Between your room & the downstairs luggage area you will find plenty of space. Checking baggage could result in delays in retrieving your luggage, misdirected, or lost luggage, due to layoffs &/or poor service. You will also be able to access anything you may need by keeping it in your sleeping room/car.
