Well, Im off for my train trip tonight. With the way the Coast Starlight has been lately,( mud slides etc) it will be interesting.Im just hoping I dont get stuck on a bus at all!!Im also dissapointed about the parlour car situation. Can you believe this...I called AMTRAK to ask them about the PC, and the woman I talked to hadnt a CLUE what the parlour car even was!!!!Anyways, Im going to make the best of it all!!Heres my itinerary:
Ill be on the:
Empire Builder 1/13 WFH to PDX
Coast Starlate 1/14 PDX to OKJ
Coast Starlate 1/30 OKJ to LAX (Anaheim actually. This one will be interesting considering how late the CS has been into LAX!Its a guaranteed connection though, so Im not too worried except for maybe about the next two days non-stop with my 8 yr old at Disneyland!!)
Coast Starlate 2/3 LAX to SEA ( usually I go to PDX, but with the new bus from Klammath Falls to Pasco, I decided to ride the CS all the way to SEA.This might be a gamble with the weather and mud slides though!I might end up on a bus after all!!)
Empire Builder 2/4 to my home, Whitefish MOntana

Good luck to you, Kim, and your grand-daughter. They are predicting rain for Central California on Saturday, 1/14. I'll be "watching" your progress.

Kim, your hometown is one of my favorite train destinations. Beautiful depot. Glacier Cyclery is my favorite place to rent a bike in the US, and I really love the restaurant across the street. Awesome homes on the lake you can see from the train. Is the Cheap Sleep Motel still in business? The train rides from the east mean 2 nights in town and the lodging is a bit pricey.

Good luck!

Glad you like Whitefish! Its a beautiful place! Its changed quite a lot over the years though! It was at one time, a sleepy little town....Cheap Sleep is still in business, as is the Downtowner, which is right in town ( about 2 blocks from the depot.)

Well, I checked, and Kim is somewhere between Eugene and Chemult right now, running only about 45 minutes late.

Spent three nights in Whitefish on my honeymoon. It's where my wife and I went after spending the first two nights in Essex, MT. I'd like to go back someday just for the warm memories we have of that place!

Would appear that she is now working on exhaustion at Disneyland with an 8 year old. She will be looking forward to a nice rest on her train ride back home starting on Friday.

Kim --- Would estimate you are safely home and have unpacked and unwound from trip. How did it all go?
