Has anyone here been on the Rocky Mountaineer? I may be going on it next year, although I will probably not be unable to afford GoldLeaf class on it, will save my nickels for the three-day trip on the Canadian instead.
Also, any thoughts on the new route via Prince George/Quesnel (old Cariboo route) would also be appreciated, along with what I might expect to see on the new Whistler Mountaineer.

I took Rocky Mountaineer Banff to Vancouver in 2003. It is really a luxurious land cruise (certainly in Gold Leaf). I can't speak directly to Red Leaf, but the differences are these: Red Leaf is single level, eat at your seat, no access to luggage in Kamloops. Gold Leaf is double level with dining car on lower level, luggage brought to Kamloops hotel, dinner voucher provided in Kamloops (discount if you decide to go to dinner theater which was very crowded and not that great food), access to outside platform for photography, very pricey but worth it if you can find the $$$. Scenery is probably better westbound because mountains in morning daylight.

I did the Red Leaf Class round trip to Calgary and had a blast. Meal service was a box lunch and I had a vestibule free any time I needed one which was the whole trip. Check out my story at.
