Is the schedule reliable enough to go from LAX to ABQ then wait a few hours for the Southwest Cheif and return to LAX?

Thank you. Paul, do I remember correctly that you got a sleeper upgrade on your recent CS trip? What the proper ettique for doing that?

Just track down the conductor and ask for an upgrade. They will fill out a little form, punch some holes in it (showing how much you paid) and give you a receipt.

If the SW Chief is late (which it rarely is) it's usually not more than 1 hour late. Usually it's right on time.

I've done this trip a dozen or so times from FLG-ABQ. Twice, I've seen both trains on the platform at the same time at ABQ (3 & 4), but that is a fairly rare occurrence. I usually have at least four hours to check out ABQ. The Chief has excellent OT performance, so I wouldn't worry too much, if at all.
