DD & I flew to FL, and AMTRAK sleeper prices finally took a brief dive a few days ago & we get to return by train. Orlando to DC on 92, spend a night in DC at the Capitol Holiday Inn w/ free points, then get on the Capitol Ltd to Chicago and on to ABQ.
At the present we have a roomette booked, but the bedrooms are still available, so we may see about upgrading on the last 2/3 of the trip.
Can't wait! We leave the 23. We both LOVE riding the rails & have done it frequently. The new dining situation will be a change, but I'm not dreading it!!

Enjoy your trip! I predict that you will get at least one extra meal on Amtrak. Most likely lunch on 92 and probably somewhere around Richmond. I'm glad you're planning to spend a night between trains in DC. The ride through Virginia is nicer when you're not worried about missing your connection.
