the crescent is the new york new orleans train. it was one of the last trains turned over to amtrak. the southern railway ran this train themselves until the early 80s i believe.

That pretty much summarizes the crescent. However, for your info, it originzates in New York City and passes through Washington,D.C., virginia, north and south carolina, Atlanta, Birgmingham, and then New Orleans.

The Crescent is a low-level train & has viewliner sleeper equipment. I have not taken this train for several years but it has always been a wonderful trip. From feedback from people having taken this train lately, the service is amongst the best in Amtrak & ontime performance is better than average. I am trying to arrange a trip on the Crescent either within the next month or in the fall. I am looking forward to traveling again & having another wonderful experience. Reggie

I'm willing to bet that Mr. Atwell is addressing that "Crescent" belongs to New Orleans based crews, and even with the usual banal 2 ViewLiner, 4 coach, Diner, and "smokehouse", their "getwithitness" that I found on a February #58 trip, will result in a pleasant travel experience.
Hopefully, Amtrak gets them off to a hotel before the New York based "scalawags" have a chance to "infect" them.
