Great news, but no surprise. Most experts predicted that Hollings' bill would pass the Senate. The House is another story.
A big battle still lies ahead. It's very likely that the bill will be watered-down in the House, if it survives at all. Then there's the possibility of a presidential veto, though the White House's apparent disinterest in the issue could be taken as a sign that Bush just wants Congress to deal with it, and will approve whatever they come up with.

The bill has just come out of committee. It hasn't been passed by the full senate, I believe it will though. Now is the time to write, call, e-mail or visit the local office of your House of Representatives & urge them to support a similiar bill. This is probably the best chance we've had in many years to finally get the funding needed to improve & expand our rail system. Reggie
