Hello, I have booked a trip from GBB-SAC-LAX-GBB for June. They have placed me in the rear most roomette number nine. Is that a pretty rough ride? It seems to me it would be due to it being right over the wheels. Do they hold the bus to LAX in BFD if the connecting San Joaquin is late? I am in roomette number eight on the Chief which I am concerened would be a rough ride. Should I call Amtrak and try to get it changed? This seems like a fun trip and I have been wanting to go to the California State Railroad Museum for awhile. Thanks in advance to all who reply.

I have stayed in Roomette 9. It isn't rough but you do hear the car door opening and closing everytime someone comes or goes. But even that isn't too bad. I believe the bus in Bakersfield always waits for the train. Its sole reason for existance is to take passengers from the train to LAX. Besides, the San Joaquins is never late. The Museum in Sacramento is great, you will like it.

Hopeful is correct. The bus waits for the San Joaquin and you usually get a non stop to LAUPT, depending on the time of day. She is not quite as accurate about SanJac time keeping, but it is pretty good.

BTW, are you staying in LA? Usually direct connection to the SWC is made by bus from BFD to Victorville or Barstow.

Give yourself plenty of time for CSRM.

The Vagabond Inn is walking distance from Amtrak and to CSRM. So is a Holiday Inn, but more walking and a lot more expensive.

Thanks for the input. I didn't know a direct connect was an option. I am not staying in LA but am going out on the Chief the same day. I am staying at the Vagabond Inn. I would like to see about getting some pictures from the platform at LA but I am not sure if that is possible due to the new security measures. I plan to spend an entire day at the CSRM.
