Anyone know what's up?? On amtrak.com, it shows "Information Unavailable: Sorry, due to a service disruption, we are unable to provide estimated departure and arrival times. For additional assistance, please contact us at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245)" on all of the scheduled Surfliner trains I checked today.
Well, I guess I could call "Julie" but does anyone know what's up? Is this just an amtrak.com glitch or is there really a problem? I need to take the Surfliner to Union Station tomorrow to connect to my flight at LAX, so I hope this is getting resolved!

I think it's due to the railroad closure earlier this afternoon because of a natural gas leak (caused by a construction crew accidentally puncturing the pipe). Metrolink and the Surfliners were both effected by this. Amtrak's web page is unable to display ETA's whenever something "different" happens.....which is beyond comprehension to me. Virtually all other transportation companies in the world that have on-line ETA's can handle this. But apparently, not Amtrak. Must be a violation of union rules, work rules, management rules, Congressional rules, and section 7895.745(a)(3).4.563343 of the Amtrak code requiring slow progress or no progress whenever possible.

OK,I did find that train 769 scheduled to leave at Noon, apparently left at 12:51 and arrived at 8:30, nearly six hours late. 7.5 hours from SAN-LAX---ouch!
Thanks for the info, hope the trains are actually running. I was down by the train tracks in the San Diego area this evening for about an hour, but I just saw freight and Coasters go by.

It was from the gas leak along the track in Irvine, CA. I'll most my horrific Surfliner experience here when I get a chance... got to get through some finals and stuff here in the next few days...

This sort of accident is commonly called "backhoe braille", as in "finding the underground pipes by backhoe braille."
