I'm hoping the CZ will go from Chicago westbound by July 16th? Is this likely? I'm hoping anyone out there who keeps tabs on the work being done might know. Thanks! I hate to do it, but I may need to book a flight on priceline

There are reports at another forum, apparently from an Amtrak Locomotive Engineer, that service to Chicago will resume with #6(3); from Chi will be #5(5). Remember however, this is NOT official - while "believable", consider the source.
Amtrak's official pronouncement remains as "To Be Announced"; so if there is foundation to the report, then it would appear that BNSF expects the CB&Q accross Iowa will be "open for business" on July 5.
Even if there is "slippage" from these reported resumption days, #5(16) should be OK.

Reports are that the "slippage" has begun; line through Iowa set to reopen July 6 vice 5.
First EW is to be #6(4), WW #5(6).
But I still think, Mr. Sutton, you will be passing my home come July 16.

Likely I am guilty of using quite localized terms in plabe of the customary EB Eastbound or WB Westbound. But the railroad along which I grew up, the New Haven, used "--"ward" in place of "--bound".
But then, New England is definitely a society influenced by maritime customs. Windward and Leeward are of course maritime, particularly sailing, terms.
