Maybe this is old news, but I saw the westbound Boston section of the Lake Shore with a Genesis in a similar paint scheme. It had no red in it just silver with blue on the top and the new Amtrak emblem on the side towards the rear.

The new Genesis units in the blue/green scheme with the logo have been running since November, 2000. Amtrak has ordered 85 of them, numbered 123-207.

That worked. Now I can't say I'm thrilled with the design. I like blue, but the lettering is too "in your face" bold. I prefer the sleeker, more elegant lettering on the recent Phase IV scheme which reminds me of the glory of the old streamliner days.
And painting only the top half of the car makes it look like Donald Duck's outfit. No pants!
What does Amtrak have against its tried and true red white and blue stripes on silver?

Where is Amtrak getting the money to paint cars into a new scheme? Some locos and single-level cars are still in the phase 3. If they are trying to project a more modern and well run company it doens't look good to have three different paint schemes on the same train. I have to agree with Mr. Toy, the new phase looks awful and the phase 4 looks very elegant and professional.

Let's not forget about those four F40PH units, #381, 383, 399, and 415 which were painted from the normal Phase II Amtrak paint into the Surfliner Paint (Amtrak West's version of Phase II.) The Phase I look was the Amtrak Cascade Paint (Green, Silver, Cinnamon Brown, and White.).... And there was the Amtrak California Paint (Units 2001 thru 2011, 2051, 2052.) But this paint is in a separate paint scheme completely.
I have seen Locomotives #60 and 93 in the new phase V paint. Acela Paint is not the same as the Phase V. It is a completely separate paint scheme unto itself.
And don't forget the Lion King Painted Snooperliner Baggage Coach car, #31047 (the Yellow Superliner). When that wrap comes off, the car will need to be repainted, since the phase IV paint will come off with the wrap. It could be painted into the Surfliner Paint scheme and renumbered #6900, though its not a cab controlled car.

Wait a second, who ever said anything about repainted Superliners? The title to this thread is misleading, as so far certain Genesis units and Acela Regional Amfleets are the only Amtrak cars to have been repainted to either the Acela or Phase V scheme. Nothing has happened to any Superliners. In fact, actual NECESSARY maintenance is lagging because of lack of capital, and too many Superliners are out of service for stupid things such as broken toilets.
