As opposed to him being a Senator for a hundred years? You do know that Congress allocates the money, right? You do know that Biden, being an influential, tenured member of the Senate could have "treated it seriously" at any given time during his stint in the Senate, and as VP he has absolutely NO POWER to accomplish his "pledge".

Isn't the house of representatives the body responsible for the allocation of money?

Mike, some VPs have more power than others (witness Cheney vis a vis Iraq). Joe the VP will have Obama's ear, and may prove to be a very influential, powerful VP.

Ocala... You do know it is Joe Biden as VP, right? He didn't do much as a Senator and I do not expect much as a VP.
Train Lady, right. However, Senators have a tremendous amount of influence over what their State Representatives propose. Usually, if a Senator wants it, a Rep will propose it.

I certainly expect that the firing of Mr. Kummant should be a signal that it will be "politics as usual" with regard to Amtrak affairs.
Elsewhere, it is established that Mr. Kummant was "not totally on board', and this $275K patronage position he has held could best be filled by someone more "in tune".

GBN once more is right on about politics, even though the Board does the hiring and firing.
At the other site I suggested Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's unemployed exec's be considered because of their "skill" with finances, especially with regard to their personal wealth accumulation. And they are of the current political persuation having helped the President Elect's campaign.

Belden sure writes like a railfan; gotta say that. It's almost like he's trying to convince Obama to stick with the promises of HSR and whatnot.
