Caltrans (California department of transportation) is accusing Amtrak of misusing the jointly owned Oakland maintenance facility, and of failing to maintain Amtrak California cars on the contracted schedule. Read all about it.

I have to think there's more to the story than what we are seeing here. The private cars at the Oakland Amtrak yard pay good money to be there, and they pay hefty fees to have their cars repaired and maintained. I'm not aware of any time where Amtrak put aside their required work in order to work on a private car.

I'd love to know the rest of the story (as Paul Harvey would say).

Sometimes those who may have agreed to a contract that is found to be not-so-great after all, resort to just such attacks on the other party as a way of distraction. As Tony Soprano says, "I'm just saying...".
