The Weather Channel reports a bad tornado outbreak in North Carolina with the worst apparently being in Sanford and around Raleigh, both on the Silver Star route. One report mentioned Apex, also on the old SAL line. A friend heard warnings for Fayetteville, Wilson, and othe rpoints along the old ACL (Silver Meteor/AutoTrain, Palmetto route). Has anyone heard whether those trains have gotten hung up along the way? With the reservations system going down, the status maps may not offer much insight so hopefully our friends in that area can provide updates.

Looks like NC got the bad stuff. Our part of SC (the Midlands) just had a couple showers and should not have affected the 'S' line - Hamlet south.

News reports indicate a staggering 62 tornadoes hit North Carolina alone in this single storm system. The devastation is amazing and my thoughts and prayers are with those effected in my home state as well all others across the southeast and midwest hit by these terrible storms.

We're fine in Western North Carolina BUT that does not go for the entire state.
The neighborhood where I used to live near the intersection of Ramsey Street and Andrews Road north of Fayetteville, NC was hit very hard. There was a good bit of damage to the athletic fields at the high school where I used to work. An elementary school right across the street was damaged, I understand, so badly that it cannot be used for the remainder of the school year.
I am guessing.....but not sure..... that CSX halted all rail traffic during the storms. If they did, that was clearly absolutely the right call.
