It was reported on my local 11:00 news that the northbound Coast Starlight hit a big rig trailer at the Espinosa Road crossing between Salinas and Castroville (closer to Castroville). Nobody was hurt and the train went on its way eventually.

This is one of those crossings where the tracks are parallel to a highway, and there isn't enough room for a long truck to clear the tracks when they stop at the highway.

The truck driver was interviewed on TV and he said he didn't see the train's lights when he looked down the track. Considering that the tracks there are as straight as you can get them, I would say he probably didn't look very hard.

I photographed #11 train there a few months ago so you can see what the crossing looks like

P42 #117 was the victim, resulting from the crash is a bashed nose, knocked out window, and a mess of HEP cables. It was set off on a siding while #120 ran backwards to the nearest wye.

A unit was added in either San Jose or Oakland.

No cars were damaged or derailed. Passengers interviewed on TV said they didn't even feel anything.

I'll see this trainset tonight around midnight, will check for any visible scrapes and such. There has got to be some sort of scrape! I saw that the trailer of the truck was resting on top of the dining car. The Parlour car usually travels ahead of the Dining car.

Will report if I see any visible damage.
