A friend asked me whether they should take the CA Zephyr west in March or early April. They are worried about snow problems in Colorado. Do they often disrupt the train?

We were in Denver on the CZ one year on May 1 and it was snowing to beat the band. However it did not stop the train.

Snow problems in the winter, flood problems in the summer, rockslides any time of year. Best thing is to expect delays and prepare for them (additional adult beverages for the sleeper, emergency rations of other kinds, another book for the Kindle, etc.)

I agree with Henry. I cannot recall a significant delay due to snow in many years, but spring time would be a great time to veiw the route. With proper supplies, and the right mind-set, any such delay could be just another memorable adventure.
