For all the times I've bad-mouthed the Lakeshore Limited, I should acknowledge a great ON TIME ride Chicago to Rochester NY, arriving on Thanksgiving Day on time to the minute!
Now if I could be so lucky on my trip to the Izaak Walton Inn, leaving from Elkhart Indiana on the Capitol connecting in Chicago to the Empire Builder.
And for the "no one rides the train" crowd, I was unable to get a seat Chicago to Elkhart on December 21 when I tried in late November. Therefore, I'm off tomorrow (12/20) to spend Chrustmas in Indiana with daughter Colleen & son-in-law Bob.
Happy Holidays to all the "regulars" I've met here.

Happy Holidays to you too, and happy travels. When are you going to the Izaak Walton Inn?
What is the Rochester station like when you leave at night? I would like to stop there some time to see the doll museum but am not sure if it's good idea, it leaves so late on the LSL. . .
I hear they are getting a new train station.

Ms. McFarland, lest we forget, a seasonal lull is upon us. Santa's sleigh with its eight tiny reindeer disguised as three Black Norfolk Southern C-44's with a nag on the nose instead of Rudolph, has completed the trip (courtesy in part of COSCO) from the Elves in the North Pole (funny how 90N 0W becomes, say, 30N 110E) and Santa has already come down the chimney at Wally World's warehouse (whoops, "distribution center").
This "waiting for time" appears to be an "enjoy it while you got it" moment.

Henry: Bob will be setting out his train around the tree tomorrow (they don't have their tree yet). He puts the HO "Flying Scotsman" under the tree. The bigger Lionel is in the basement, awaiting a permanent set-up. The only building on the tree layout so far is an Anglican Church, complete with tiny priest at the door.
