Just wondering what the #11 dining car breakfast chances are for roomette folks like us changing trains in SAC. With the CS due in SAC at 6:15 or so, odds seem bleak but if we’re packed & ready & eat fast, maybe? Thanks! Posts: 5 | Registered: Apr 2013

Eat a big dinner the night before. If the train's running on time, you might be able to get a cup of coffee, juice or an orange in the sleeper. But unless there's some sort of delay enroute, you should plan on not having time for breakfast.

Odds are very, very low. Oftentimes, the train is early into SAC and they haven't even opened the diner yet. If you're changing to a San Joaquin or Capitol Corridor, you can grab breakfast there. The snack car has a nice variety of stuff (coffee, juice, yogurt, cereal, croissant, etc).

A shallow, uninformed piece. The Fox reporters evidently made assumptions without asking questions. They never heard of "sous vide" or convection ovens.

It was interesting to see the inside of an Amtrak kitchen. I was surprised at the amount of fresh ingredients that are prepared on board. And sanitation looked pretty good (no nose picking!).

That was an "interesting" report. If I had never travelled Amtrak before, I would walk away thinking, "Wow! They serve gourmet meals on the train!". ("Gourmet" is a word I would never, EVER use for AmFood).
I'm glad that they had an open mind once they realized that the full on "Simplified Dining Service" was a total disaster and they were willing to modify things. The Cafe Car stats were interesting---I never would have guessed that the number one breakfast food was the Danish. I've never purchased a Danish on-board Amtrak. If I'm skipping the Diner, I'll get Yogurt, a banana, and a muffin. Those Danish look cheaper than what they sell at 7 -11, and I've had enough of those as a cop working in the middle of the night. Hah hah!
