I just completed a 'business trip' to Cincinnati for research on the Cincinnati Union Terminal (now the impressive Cincinnati Museum Center) for our model railroad.

A strange thing happened on the flights. I booked my ticket using my Delta FF number. When we started to go through security, the first TSA agent (who checks your license and ticket) said we should go to the pre-check line. We did and zipped through (this was at the busy Charlotte airport). In that line we were told to keep our shoes on as well as our coats and belts. We barely paused as we went through the metal detector - no special scans or pat downs. Not sure why this happened as it was nothing I applied for but it was great. Perhaps our senior status did the trick but it was a welcome surprise. Total time through security was less than 5 minutes. Same experience on the return flight.

Having spent the day at CUT , I can tell you there is little chance that CSX will ever allow the Cardinal to go daily. It was nonstop trains with two or three (including NS) usually waiting on the station and other tracks to proceed across the C&C bridge to KY.

We did see a 5 hours late Cardinal one morning as it crossed in front of our hotel on the KY side.

I only wish that would happen to me next week! I suspect not and it'll be the dreary dungeons of a half-rebuilt LAX again.

My boarding passes always say "Pre-Check" now since I added my "known traveler" information to my profile. I still get the wand and pat down though because of my two hip replacements.

Sometimes the first person you encounter is also doing double duty as a "traffic cop" -- they can direct people to the shortest line.

I just booked what will be our longest flight EVER -- Sydney to Vancouver and on to LAX. The SYD-YVR sector is scheduled at 16:05. Why that routing, you might ask? It was only 67,500 miles each for Air Canada's Executive First (Individual pods) vs. 150,000 miles each on United's cramped Business Class. This is for next October after a 23 night cruise from SFO to SYD.

How do you add your "known traveler" information? What I mean is, what web page are you doing this on? Is it somewhere on the reservation page with your specific airline? Or is this on some TSA website somewhere?

It's usually on the airline webpage. I used my Global Entry number and it worked. Norm tried his and it wouldn't take it. It also would not take his "Known Crew Member" number.

I haven't checked the Virgin America website but on United it is in the "Your Profile" section.

Hmmm, okay, I will have to take a look on VA's website next time I book a reservation (which will probably be today, for the CRUISE I'm planning!!!). [Smile]

Smitty, doesn't your LEO ID help at all in getting through the lines faster? I mean, you've already gone through some pretty serious background checks, no? to work in LE? Just wondering...

Managed to take some keys through security today, completely by accident. It was one of those stand up x-ray booths (or whatever they are), and the operator must have noticed them as I was pulled to the side for a pat down "of the right knee area because we saw something metallic there". Of course, they didn't find anything down there and let me go. It was only later that I found the keys and realized what they were looking for. Lucky it wasn't anything else.
