CBS Radio News reported an ACE Train derailed near Freemont CA along Alameda Creek Monday evening. This was lead story during the 5AM CT hour.

Injuries were reported.

I will defer to the abundance of Local Knowledge at this site for further reports.

The injury count is down to nine from earlier reported fourteen, says the Associated Press:

Fair Use:

  • SUNOL, Calif. (AP) — A downed tree on the tracks reportedly caused a commuter train to derail in Northern California, sending its lead car plunging into a swollen creek and leaving nine people injured, authorities said.

Rescuers battled the creek's fast-moving currents Monday night to pull riders to safety from the partially submerged rail car, Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Kelly said.

"It was dark, wet, it was raining. It was very chaotic," Kelly said. "This is an absolute miracle that no one was killed, no passengers or first responders."

Four people were seriously hurt, while five others had minor injuries, the Alameda County Fire Department said. The department had been saying in the first hours after the crash that 14 people were injured.

For info, here is the location of this derailment--collision with a landslide that ACE train 10 found the very hard way. This location is just directly across the Alameda Creek from the main yard of the Niles Canyon Railway. This yard is commonly called "BRIGHTSIDE" by the NCRY railroaders. This link is from the HERE Maps online Map . THis URL via the google URL shortener : https://goo.gl/FU8lTT

It seems that the media made much more to the story than there was.

Lead story on CBS Radio News usually finds it's way to the New York Times front page.

Today's Times has a photo well inside; captioned but no article from either staff or wire.
