Sadly, my computer also has low video speed. Mainly, though, laptops were never intended for games beyond Minesweeper and Solitaire, so they aren't really the best to try to play something as powerful as that on. Most simulators work best on PCs. It also helps to close unnecessary programs and keep them from loading at startup in the first place.

I'm still just looking at the MSTS box up on the shelf next to my RR books. It has been up there for a year now. I have a PowerMac.
Just this week someone offered me a SONY VAIO PCV-220 as soon as they remove their personal files from its HDD. This machine cost $2,400 in 1998. I saw the same SONY PC on eBay yesterday. The starting bid for it was $20.50. It has a 266 mHz processor, a 6 GB HDD, 98 MB RAM, and a 4 MB ATI all-in-one graphics card. Still not enough power for MSTS.
Can this machine be upgraded to meet MSTS system requirements? I know RAM can be increased. The maximum RAM the slots will accommodate is 384 MB.
Is there a graphics card that will help me run MSTS on this machine?

It's free

Well the first problem that you guys are having is the fact that your still looking at MSTS, which wasn't a very good game overall. What I would recommend is Aurun's Railroad Simulator 2004. It requires Windows 98/Me/Xp at least a 733mhz processor (it say piii but I'm guessing it would run a pi, pii, p celeron), 256md of ram, a 32mb video card, Direct X 9.1 or higher , Direct X compatible sound card, 8x CD-ROM. If, however, your still into MSTS the system requirements are as follows: Microsoft® Windows® 95/98/Me/2000/XP. Does not support NT PC with 266 MHz equivalent or higher processor 32 MB of RAM for Windows 95/ 98/Me; 64 MB for Windows 2000 Approximately 1.5 GB of available hard disk space for a full install, 500 MB of available hard disk space for a minimum install Quad-speed or higher CD-ROM drive DirectX 7.0a video driver DirectX 7.0a or later compatible 4 MB video card capable of 800 x 600 resolution in 32K colors Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device.
