Does anyone make HO cars in which the couplers are not attached to the trucks, but attached to the body of the car instead? I am having trouble with passenger cars uncoupling around 36" (approximately) radius track. Thanks--

Many companies do. However, you said passenger cars and most of them use the truck mounted couplers. If you actually have a 36inch radius, there must be something else wrong.
Perhaps what you have is an 18 inch radius making just over 36 inch in diameter? That would lead to uncoupling and derailments of passenger cars.

You might try making your cars more closely coupled. I had the same problem with my passenger cars. Then I bought Kadee's coupler's with the box that fit my cars. Now they work perfectly and they look better too. One other thing, Try putting on some good quality wheel set's like Intermountain or North West Short Line.

I think I solved the problem by replacing the couplers which came with the cars with the old-fashioned "horn-type" couplers. I think the problem was my grades; not my track radii. No I do NOT have 18" radius track!
