Man i saw one run a few weeks ago and they are so quite!!! anyways I am wonder if any of you have HO KATO engines and i would like to know how heavy they are, how much pulling power, and how smooth they can be. I am wondering if i should get 2 athearn engines or 1 kato. Which is the better way to go?
PS: this is DrunkEngineer, new name because my other name was stupied.

MR magazine reviewed the HO Kato SD-2 in Aug 99. At that time the model was marred by potential electrical problems with the circuit board-copper strips. www.katousa.com may have a recommendation posting to correct this problem but I have seen others posts suggesting that all that has to be done is "solder the copper strips from the motor to the board" The unit weights in at 17.5 oz, draw pull:3.7 oz(51 cars) 18" radius

My apologies, I took the subject to be SD-2 which is your new address, anyway I will keep on trucking. ModelRailroadNews did a review on the KatoSD-2 Snoot Nose in June 2000 and I suspect Kato improved on the electrical-circuit problem since I don't have a problem. My Snoot easily pulls 24 cars at 101 MPH. Hi all, SD40-2, I have two Kato locos, a GP35, and a Stewart F-3 (Kato drive), both are superb performers. They are the workhorses of my R.R. Happy modelling, Bobby.
