Where did you get the ideas for the scenery layout on your set? Pictures? Books? Around home?
-Thanks

Jesse,

He may sign back in but if he doesn't responed its because he had to stop signing in for financial reasons. In The Gauge discussion forum he posted a good bye at: http://www.the-gauge.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000228.html

The message was entitled: Goodbye.

I let you read the link.

Hope this helps,

I sure hate to see Shamus leave, he was a real inspiration to all of us. This thread did help me, tho, because I never knew about the guage forum. I am relatively new on the puter and I find these forums only by accident. There are about 5-6 that I know of now, but some seem to have dried up, no new posts for several weeks. Is there a way to find out where all the forums, bulletin boards, or whatever they are called?

Lynn

Lynn,

I'm in the business and can tell you that its next to impossible to find all of the internet newsgroups (forums, discussions, take your pick). You need to find a site which supply's a good list and then stumble on them yourselve and recommend good ones to the list servers. Trainweb.com has a limited list but this source is a great source to keep up to date on sites which you find are good discussion groups. I like the Gauge and this forum (RailForum) all though I think the Gauge is updated more often.

Don't give up just keep looking. I have a few links at my site at: http://communities.msn.com/FurtakNetRailFanPhotos/ . I'm working on getting a good domain name for a better link, oh well.

Stay tuned to this forum and the Gauge they are good bets.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jesse,
Found a cheaper way to get on the web once or twice a week.
You asked about my scenery, well I was an admirer of John Allen’s work and many others, but the scenery side of my Badger Creek came about by looking at 100's of photographs of logging area's, and then trying match the overall effect.

When I first started into the realms of Railroad Modelling, the knowledge I gained from watching other people work gave me much pleasure. The questions I asked, of these people I watched, must have run into the thousands. All were very helpful in putting up with this very young teenager who wanted a railroad for himself.

What I have learnt over these last 40 years has given me much more pleasure than you could imagine. Now, I would like to share that knowledge with you the readers. I have written many articles on various subjects, from making the baseboards to laying track and building the scenery, to photographing the finished product.
To this end I have included on my website many "How to articles"

See you all soon.

Shamus

Lynn,

An update on that domain name is http://www.railspike.net .

Shamus,

Great to see you again! I've only been on for a short time but have seen the impact you are having to these responses. I hope I can contribute as much.

See ya around.
